Organ donor registry

Check Australian Organ Donor Register via myGov or Services Australia records if arrangements are unclear

Some steps differ by region inside the country.

Where

The Australian Organ Donor Register, administered by Services Australia. The hospital's donation specialist handles it at the time of death.

How

If the death is very recent and in hospital, the donation specialist nurse will already have raised this, because timing is critical. Check the Australian Organ Donor Register through Services Australia or myGov for their recorded decision. Look for a note of their wishes in their will, letter of wishes, or on their licence in older states. Notifying Services Australia of the death updates the register automatically.

Timing

Donation decisions are made within hours, so this is only actionable immediately after the death.
