Notify the ATO; arrange final individual tax return(s) and consider whether a deceased estate tax return is required

How

Notify the ATO of the death and have yourself recorded as the legal personal representative, which can be done online or through a tax agent. Lodge a date of death tax return covering 1 July to the date of death. Work out whether a deceased estate tax return is needed for income earned after death during administration. Ask the ATO for confirmation that all obligations are met before distributing the estate.
