How

Prepare the final accounting showing every dollar in and out of the estate. File the petition for final distribution together with the beneficiary receipts. Attend the final hearing if the court schedules one, and obtain the order discharging you as executor. Keep the complete file for at least several years, including tax returns and appraisals.
