How

Call the DMV or check its website for the transfer on death of owner process, most states have a specific form. Ask whether your state allows a simplified transfer to a surviving spouse or heir without full probate, many do. Obtain a lien release from the lender if the vehicle was financed. Arrange insurance in the new owner's name before anyone drives the vehicle.
