Notify all banks and freeze accounts to protect assets

How

Phone each bank's main number and ask for the deceased estates department. Give them the death certificate so sole accounts are frozen. This protects the estate and protects you. Ask for a list of all accounts, cards, loans, and safe custody items in their name. Ask what they need from the Master before funds can be released, usually the Letters of Executorship or a Section 18(3) appointment.

Timing

Report within the first week. Funds are only released once the Master has appointed an executor or representative.
