Device access

Executor or family may need device passcodes or recovery keys; Apple/Google legacy contacts may help after death

How

Try known passcodes and patterns first, but be careful, repeated failures can wipe a device. Check whether they set up an Apple Legacy Contact or a Google Inactive Account Manager, which gives you direct access. Otherwise apply through Apple's or Google's deceased user process with the death certificate and grant of probate. Do not factory reset anything until you are certain nothing on it is needed.
