Where
In the vehicle or their filing. DVLA can issue a replacement V5C if it is missing.
How
Look in the vehicle, the household filing, and with any finance company if the vehicle is on finance.
Apply to DVLA for a replacement V5C if you cannot find it.
Complete the relevant section to transfer the vehicle or notify DVLA of the death.
Arrange insurance in the new keeper's name before anyone drives it.
What to bring

A certified copy of the death certificate
The grant of probate if the vehicle is being transferred or sold
